The client is a fast-growing eCommerce company with a single premium brand of at-home test kits, selling on Amazon in the US and Europe. Its nine-person remote team was doing over $4 million in annual revenue, growing 50% to 100% a year, with a goal of building a $100 million brand. They had already made four hires through us.
Midway through a search for an Integrator, it became clear the business needed someone rooted in Amazon. With performance issues in their existing brand manager role, the leadership paused that search and switched to an Amazon brand manager who would own revenue, pricing, launches and growth.
The first brief had three problems:
- Niche tools were listed as mandatory, shrinking the pool to almost nobody.
- The budget was low for the level. $2,000 to $3,500 a month for a role that typically commands $3,500 to $5,000 at full brand-ownership level.
- Candidates were scarce. The client preferred Europe, where experienced Amazon brand managers are rare, so the search had to rely on headhunting for a company most candidates had never heard of.
