How an Amazon Agency Hired a PPC Manager in About Two Weeks

When an Amazon agency's client list grows, its advertising team has to grow with it, and fast. Waiting months for the right specialist means stretched teams and slower results for clients.

A Germany-based Amazon advertising agency came back to Retalent to hire an Amazon PPC manager for its three-person advertising team. About two weeks after launch, they hired an Italy-based Amazon PPC manager with five years of agency experience, for $18,000 a year. The same role costs $55,000 to $70,000 in the US.

Here's how we made a tight budget and a tricky brief work, and closed the hire faster than we promised.

The challenge: a tight budget and a must-have almost nobody had

The client is a Germany-based agency that manages Amazon advertising for brands selling on the platform. A returning Retalent client, they came back in late 2025, led by their Growth and Operations Manager, to add a remote Amazon PPC specialist to their advertising team.

The search faced three hurdles:
  • The recruitment budget hadn't moved. The client came back with the same budget as their previous hire, while recruitment costs had risen sharply. At first, they paused the search to look within their own network.
  • The salary was below market. $1,500 a month was $500 to $700 below what the role usually pays.
  • The brief was too narrow. It listed a specialized Amazon research tool as a must-have, even though it's rarely used in the markets we recruit from. The role also needed full availability during Central European hours and strong client-facing English.

The results: one interview, one hire, two weeks

From launch to an accepted offer took about two weeks, faster than the three to four weeks we quoted at the start. Here's how the search narrowed:

109 sourced → 17 tested → 3 presented → 1 interviewed by the client → 1 hired

The client met only one finalist and hired her after a single call. They chose her for the best results on the test task: an Italy-based Amazon PPC manager with five years of agency experience, hired at $1,500 a month.

4 lessons for hiring an Amazon PPC specialist

  1. Make rare tools a bonus, not a must-have. Tools can be learned. Requiring one that few people use can empty your candidate pool.
  2. Test on your own work. Using your own task and answer key means every finalist is proven on the job they'll actually do.
  3. Know the market rate. Even a small salary increase can make the difference between a thin pool and a strong one.
  4. Decide fast. A five-day feedback window and quick scheduling closed this hire in about two weeks.
